OnSong is designed to run on Apple products, including iPad, iPhone, and Mac computers. Because of this, we support the iOS, iPadOS, and macOS operating systems. Our support for those operating systems is mostly determined by Apple, and we work hard to support as many devices as possible for the longest period of time. As Apple deprecates or removes support for certain operating systems, we may not be able to provide updates any longer.
OnSong 2020 is supported on iOS 12.4 and newer operating systems. Subscription versions of OnSong, such as OnSong 2026, support iOS/iPadOS 15 and newer.
Notice For OnSong 2020 Users
OnSong 2020 is the culmination of our original app that was released on the App Store in 2010. When we released OnSong 2022 in March of the same year, we continued to support our users who had purchased OnSong 2020 and earlier versions. This allowed users to continue to use the app they were familiar with as we transitioned to a new user interface experience and subscription pricing model. Since that time, we've provided 25 updates to OnSong 2025 to provide stability and support for newer operating systems while maintaining backwards compatibility to iOS 12.4.
In January 2026, Apple informed users that new updates submitted to the App Store would be required to be built using their latest development software. This software limits support to iOS/iPadOS 15 and higher. What this means for our OnSong 2020 users is that we can no longer provide updates on the App Store without potentially causing issues for users stuck on iOS 12.5. This includes the following Apple products:
- iPad mini 2 and 2
- iPad Air 1
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 6
- iPod Touch 6
The latest version of OnSong 2020 has proven to be quite resilient and has not necessitated any additional updates with the latest operating systems. Because of that, we are no longer updating OnSong 2020, and we recommend users with older devices to upgrade to newer hardware to continue to receive support from Apple and developers moving forward.
What Does This Look Like Moving Forward?
While we are not planning any future updates to OnSong 2020, you will be able to continue to download the OnSong app you've purchased from Apple and continue to use it on the devices you have. Since OnSong 2020 is purchased on your Apple ID and no longer listed on the App Store, you will need to do this through your account in the App Store app by viewing your purchased apps. While we don't anticipate any issues with the software at this time, there may come a point where products or services you rely on change, and could change and cause the app to no longer function for your needs. Luckily, we've developed an upgrade path that keeps our promise to our loyal users!
The latest versions of OnSong are available as a free download on the App Store and can be installed as a separate app on your device. If you have OnSong 2020 also installed on your device, the new version of OnSong will detect the older version and automatically unlock "Pro" level features and give you a familiar OnSong 2020 user interface. This means you'll continue to receive updates while maintaining access to features you've paid for in the original app. In addition, we've added some other great features like support for a two-column song layout.
We recommend that you sign into or create an OnSong account in the app after you've installed the latest version of OnSong. That will allow us to change your base tier on your account to "Pro" so you'll never lose access to those features. This is important if you move to a different device that does not support OnSong 2020 or if you lose access to your Apple ID.
