What is OnSong?
OnSong is a free iOS/iPadOS app that allows you to access and view chord charts that were shared with you from another OnSong user. You can also join different membership tiers to unlock a variety of other OnSong features like unlimited songs in your library, song editing, instant transposition, and much more! We recommend joining the OnSong Premium membership tier, which not only grants you access to ALL current OnSong features but also includes access to new major features when released!
What is the difference between OnSong and OnSong Pro?
There are a couple of differences. While OnSong is free to download on the App Store, OnSong Pro is a paid app for $35.99 USD on the App Store. OnSong allows you to choose a tier with the features that makes the most sense for you, while OnSong Pro comes with a fixed number of features. The most significant feature of OnSong is that by default, it allows you to receive, import, and store up to 30 songs at no cost to you – meaning that you no longer need to purchase OnSong Pro if you just want to view received or imported chord charts.
I already have OnSong Pro, should I also download OnSong?
If you already have OnSong Pro, then you don't need to download OnSong. Aside from updated schedules, they are the same app. If you've signed up for OnSong Premium, you can use your account on both OnSong and OnSong Pro. Overall, OnSong is designed to be downloaded by musicians who want to try OnSong for free and/or import, receive, and view a handful of chord charts. These users can then explore OnSong’s different feature tiers if they wish to upgrade OnSong and access editing, transposition, and other features for customizing those chord charts.
What will happen to OnSong Pro?
OnSong Pro isn’t going away. It will continue to be available for purchase and use on the App Store, and if you’ve already purchased it, you will still be able to access and use OnSong Pro just as you always have. OnSong Pro will continue to receive free periodic updates for bug fixes, iOS compatibility, and minor feature enhancements – just like normal.
What are the different membership tiers in OnSong?
OnSong is available in three tiers: Free, Essential, and Premium. When you download OnSong for free you can store up to 30 songs in your library and receive sets from your team leader. OnSong Essential provides you with all the features you’ll need to plan and organize your setlist including song editing capabilities, transposition, and sharing. OnSong Premium gives your access to live performance tools like lyrics projection, scenes, MIDI control, backing tracks, and advanced annotations and drawing tools. OnSong Premium members receive all the features of OnSong. You can view more details about these tiers here: onsongapp.com/pricing
How much do these tiers cost?
The price of Free, the default tier, is in the name – it’s free! OnSong Essential is $2.99 USD per month or $23.99 USD if paid annually. OnSong Premium is $4.99 USD per month or $47.99 USD if paid annually.
How many songs I can store if I’m a Free tier member?
You can import and store up to 30 chord charts to permanently access if you are a Free tier member. These can be imported just as you would in a paid version of OnSong by opening from email, Dropbox, chord chart providers, and more. You can also receive sets and songs from another OnSong user. Please note that if you are a Free tier member, songs and setlists beamed to you from other OnSong users automatically expire after 2 weeks and cannot be permanently stored.
I am already an OnSong Premium subscriber. What does this mean for me?
You will continue to have access to your OnSong Premium account and Premium features within OnSong Pro, just like normal. As long as you continue to be a Premium member, you'll also continue to receive the latest and greatest OnSong Premium updates and features as they are released directly in your OnSong Pro app. Nothing has changed for you!
Speaking of subscription, I used to have Console and/or Drawing Tool but now I can’t access them without subscribing. Why is this?
In 2019, we accidentally added a bug that allowed some users to access current Premium features (like Console or Drawing Tool) without buying them. Pretty nice, huh? But when we released the OnSong Premium subscription in December 2019, we inadvertently fixed that issue, which caused some users to lose access to these features. However, with the release of OnSong Premium, we made a promise that you wouldn't lose access to the features you have. So if you are having issues, this article may help.
Why are you making people subscribe to access most of OnSong’s features?
The answer is actually simple – we want to provide the best support and features that we possibly can for our users. Our customers demand advanced new features and world-class support. Over the years, OnSong has grown from a simple app to full-fledged software that manages all your stage performance needs, and we have always wanted to listen to our users and make that possible. We want to take the next step in this journey together with you, our loyal users, and we don't want to be dictated by the demands of investment bankers or others that don't share our commitment to you. Providing constant research, development, support, and training takes time and resources. Subscribing to OnSong Premium is an investment into the future of the app and what our team can bring to you for years to come. It will also allow us to bring OnSong to new users with more affordable options.
Do I have to subscribe to use OnSong? Is it really free now?
OnSong as an app is free to download, and its default membership tier is free. This tier will allow you to receive, import, and store up to 30 chord charts for free. If you want to edit these charts or take your performances to the next level with additional features, you will need to select a paid membership tier to access these additional features. If you've already purchased OnSong Pro in the past, then you can continue to download and/or use OnSong Pro and utilize all of its features as you always have.
Why did you release this new OnSong app?
We released this app for three reasons. First, we wanted to provide a way for people to try OnSong and to receive and use OnSong chord charts and sets without an expensive purchase. Second, it allows new users to try OnSong in the free tier, or to try OnSong Premium for free for 30 days. Third, we wanted to allow people to customize their OnSong experience to keep up with the latest and greatest features. OnSong allows users to select which feature tier works best for them, and they will have continued access to these features and new ones as they become available, especially for OnSong Premium. We also wanted existing users to maintain access to their app and not have anything to be changed or taken away from them.
What about introducing other promised features like multiple column support or other Premium features?
The recent COVID-19 pandemic required that we shift our focus to making a way for people to download and access OnSong at little to no cost, which is why we prioritized the release of this free version of OnSong. Shifting to this new model with a new app will also allow us to build OnSong further into the future. It will allow us to iterate future features more quickly without affecting our current users on OnSong Pro. Rest assured that we are hard at work on features and enhancements like two-column support for all OnSong and OnSong Pro users.
How about an Android version of this new OnSong app?
We are not currently focused on creating an Android version of OnSong, and you can read more about that here. However, changing to this new tiered OnSong model may allow us to release more basic Android versions over time.
How do I sign up for a membership tier?
When you launch OnSong, you will be prompted to create an account and choose a membership plan. You can also sign up for OnSong Premium within OnSong Pro by tapping on the gear icon in the Menubar to open the Utilities Menu. You can then tap on Account and tap the Upgrade to OnSong button to choose your plan. If you don't subscribe, you'll maintain access to the base plan of your app. For instance, if you've purchased, downloaded, and are using the OnSong Pro app, you'll continually have access to pro-level features.
Can I try a paid tier for free?
Yes, you can! For your first time trying any of these tiers, you will receive a free week if you select to be billed monthly, or you will receive a free month if you select to be billed annually.
How often am I billed?
After your free trial, you are billed by Apple either monthly or annually depending on the option you choose. Keep in mind that being billed annually costs less per month than being billed monthly.
How can I access my account?
You can access your OnSong account by tapping the gear icon in the Menubar to open the Utilities Menu and then choose Account. This will display your current account status and information.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Since OnSong membership tiers are classified as in-app purchases, you can cancel through the App Store. We’ve added a Manage Your Subscription button on the Account screen to link you to the App Store where you can change or cancel your subscription. Keep in mind that canceling your subscription will automatically return you to a Free tier member and restrict your access to all features that require a paid subscription.
What happens if there is an issue with my credit card?
If Apple detects an issue with your credit card, you will be notified so you can correct the issue. Apple does attempt to bill your credit card a few days before to ensure that there will not be any billing issues in advance. OnSong has also opted into a grace period that will allow you to continue to access your features for 16 days, allowing you time to resolve any billing issues.
