The Add To OnSong action can also be used to import images and videos from within the Photos app on your device. Typically you would use this for background media that appears during lyrics projection. However, you can also use this to import photos of lyrics or chord charts. We will cover both in this article.
The first step is to learn how to import photos and videos from the Photos app. To do this, open the Photos app. Next, locate the photo or photos that you want to import and then tap on the Select button in the navigation bar. You can then checkmark multiple photos if desired. Once you've selected these photos, tap on the share icon that appears like a square with an up arrow to open the Share Activity Menu. Here you can tap on the Add To OnSong action to enqueue those photos for import into your OnSong library the next time OnSong is opened.
By default, OnSong will determine if the photo should be imported as a song or as a background media image depending on the photo's attributes. If the photo is in a portrait orientation, OnSong will automatically assume that the photo is a scan of a music sheet. If the photo is in landscape orientation, OnSong will assume that the photo is for use as background media behind lyrics projection and add it to your Background Media Library found in the Utilities Menus > Editors. One exception to this assumption is if OnSong determines the photo to be on paper. If evaluates the four corners of the photo to determine if the photo is "paper".
You can also import videos into OnSong as background media. Repeat the same steps as used for importing photos, except choose videos instead. When the Add To OnSong action is tapped, the videos will be enqueued for import into the Background Media Library when you open OnSong.
Avoid importing both videos and images at the same time as a limitation in iOS/iPadOS will only allow one type of file to be imported per share session.
While you can import scanned images using this method, it's much easier to use an app for scanning documents, or the Document Scanner feature of OnSong Premium. This allows you to create multiple-page PDF files that are compressed for the best results.
