The AirTurn BT200 and PED foot pedals have the ability to change modes. There are essentially three types of modes... BLE, HID, and MIDI.
- BLE stands for Bluetooth LE and is mode 1 of the pedal. This is the most direct way that Bluetooth operates on newer wireless devices. It's low power and can send a lot of information about the pedal press, including the device it came from.
- HID stands with Human Interface Device. In this mode, the AirTurn foot pedal mimics a computer keyboard just like pressing arrow keys on your keyboard. This has the most compatibility but also has limitations such as blocking the on-screen keyboard from appearing without pressing the keyboard button on your pedal. This is modes 2 through 6 on the BT200.
- MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface and uses Bluetooth to send MIDI signals.
Problem
The problem is that if you switch between BLE and HID modes and pair under the new mode, iOS/iPadOS retains the previous pairing internally. This causes the press of the physical foot pedal to send two signals, one for BLE and one for HID. This causes one pedal press to "cancel" the action of the other, or scroll too quickly down the page.
Solution
The solution is to reset the pedal to factory defaults, choose a mode you're going to stick with, and then pair the pedal again. To reset the foot pedal, press and hold the power button for about 8 seconds until the LED flashes rapidly and then stays on a dim level. This will ensure the pedal is reset. Next, press and hold the mode button until the LED flashes the number of times for the mode you want. We recommend either Mode 1 or 2. Once you've paired the device, the double press issue should be resolved.
